The world population is expanding rapidly. We reached a billion people in 1800, two billion by 1922 and by 2000 we were at a staggering six billion people populating the world. By 2050, it is estimated that the population will be over nine billion people. That is an unprecedented rate of growth.

Now consider that the world has a finite amount of natural resources. Some of them are already depleted but imagine that if the rest were evenly distributed, the nine billion people in 2050 would only have 25% of those resources per capita than the people did in 1950.

As population growth continues to escalate, our finite resources get stretched even more thin and those resources get depleted further. Will they be available forever? Definitely not and now is the time to realize that we still have time to fix and change the future. After all, you don´t wait until you run out of gas to get more, why would you wait until you run out of natural resources to come up with a different, better way to replace them?

Global warming is another cause for concern whose consequences are scary to think about. Higher temperatures cause things to melt; things like glaciers and ice caps. When they melt, the ocean levels rise which then lead to erosion and flooding which can lead to over populated inland areas. Higher temperatures can also be enough to dramatically alter the Earth´s weather and rainfall, leading to possible drought and then water shortages.

Ultimately, the heat will become too unbearable for several species of plants and animals, killing them off completely, and that will impact our lives as well. Some insects will migrate north to escape the heat and start knocking on our doors. Tropical pests bring with them tropical diseases which we don´t really know how to cure. And all of this leads to disaster…
